According to CoinDesk, six Bitcoin wallets that had been inactive since their last activity between 2011 and 2014 moved a total of 553.59 BTC, worth approximately $40 million, between August 16 and 26. Five of the wallets sent Bitcoin to addresses not linked to any known exchange, while one wallet transferred 40 BTC to Boerse Stuttgart Digital, a German crypto custody and trading services provider. Additionally, two of the wallets are connected to a lawsuit in New York, where the pseudonymous plaintiff, Noah Doe, is seeking control of Bitcoin held in 39,069 dormant addresses under state unclaimed property laws. Galaxy Research data shows that on-chain movements of dormant Bitcoin fell to their lowest level since 2022 in the second quarter, with full-year 2026 movements projected to be less than half of last year's total. Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy, noted that none of the numerous whale clients he has spoken with cite quantum computing risk as a reason to sell, though some institutional investors do avoid buying Bitcoin for that reason. Previously, after the disclosure of a vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets, approximately 210,000 BTC left long-term holder wallets within a week.
