“Smart money” is not an official status. It is shorthand for professional institutions, long-horizon allocators and capital with an information or execution advantage. Start with public addresses, block explorers and well-supported labels, then check the asset, counterparty, time and where funds move next. Do not treat one transfer as a purchase or sale, and do not treat an address label as proof of identity. See How to Track Whale Wallets.

No return can be promised from doing so. You usually cannot see a whale’s full cost basis, hedges, liabilities, liquidity needs or time horizon, and public signals can be delayed. Whale activity is a research lead, not a copyable trading instruction. See How to Track Whale Wallets.

On-chain data is usually faster and shows transfers and balances on a public ledger, but identity and transaction purpose may be uncertain. Institutional filings identify a reporting entity and positions within a defined scope, but arrive on a legal disclosure schedule. The two complement each other. Search SEC EDGAR by manager name or CIK and compare consecutive Form 13F reports. To check crypto held by a company itself, also review its 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings. Start with public issuer and exchange disclosures, then distinguish net creations and redemptions from trading volume, net-asset changes and the effect of the underlying token price. “Flow” can mean different things across data sites. See Reading Crypto Spot ETF Flows.

RWA tokenization uses a token or blockchain record to represent a real-world asset or related claim. A project should not be classified from its token name alone: legal rights, custody, redemption and verifiable asset support matter. See RWA Tokenization and What Counts in TVL.

Separate total supply from net issuance or redemption, migration between chains, and issuer reserve disclosure. Rising supply can indicate more demand for on-chain dollars, but it does not automatically equal buying pressure for risk assets. See How to Read Stablecoin Supply Data.

On-chain data comes from public block explorers and nodes. Institutional holdings come from public SEC EDGAR filings including 13F and 13D/G. ETF flows come from issuer and exchange disclosures. For the full methodology, see the Data Sources page.

On-chain data is near real time. Institutional filings follow the SEC disclosure schedule — 13F is quarterly with up to a 45-day lag. ETF flows are typically T+1.

It is an SEC rule: institutions have 45 days after quarter end to file. So the positions you see reflect where a fund stood at the close of last quarter, not where it stands now. For the full explanation, see the 13F Crypto Holdings Guide.

Not with certainty. Address labels come from public label databases and clustering analysis. They are reasonably accurate but they are not proof of identity. insigtX describes verifiable capital movement only and does not speculate about who controls an address.

We use only public, verifiable sources, and we label each item with its origin and update time. Public data still carries differences in scope and delays in disclosure, and we flag those limits wherever they matter.

Usually because they measure differently — whether derivatives exposure is counted, whether related addresses are consolidated, which timestamp the exchange rate is taken from. Our own methodology is set out on the Data Sources page.
