Arm Holdings PLC's stock was a hot name Wednesday evening.
Shares of the British semiconductor and software design company rose 4.76% to $263 in after-hours trading on Wednesday.
In regular trading, ARM gained 3.93%, closing at $251.06.
Rally Driven by Arm-IBM Partnership Announcement
The rally stems from Arm's announcement earlier this week of an expanded partnership with IBM.
According to a blog post by Mohamed Awad, Executive Vice President of Arm's Cloud AI division, under the expanded partnership, IBM will bring Arm architecture to future IBM Z and LinuxONE mainframe systems, marking the first dual-architecture processor introduced under this collaboration.
IBM Z and LinuxONE are enterprise-grade server families designed for security, large-scale operations, and mission-critical computing. However, they primarily differ in approved operating systems and workloads.
Awad wrote, "Each processor core is designed to natively execute both IBM and Arm instructions," enabling Arm-native Linux environments to run in parallel with z/OS and existing Linux applications.
