AUD/USD extended its weakness during early European trading on Wednesday, with the pair trading around 0.71017, down approximately 0.15% on the day. The US dollar remains supported by the Federal Reserve's hawkish stance, weighing on risk-sensitive currencies like the Australian dollar. Market focus is shifting toward the China-US leadership meeting later this week and remarks from Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Bullock, both seen as key catalysts for the near-term direction of the Aussie.

**20-Day EMA Caps Gains, Pair Stuck in Narrow Range**

On the technical front, the 20-day exponential moving average (EMA) continues to act as a key resistance level, limiting the Aussie's rebound potential. Price has held above the 100-day simple moving average support at 0.7078 and is trading above the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement at 0.7095, but upside momentum remains clearly insufficient. The relative strength index sits in neutral territory around 48, while the MACD indicator is slightly negative, suggesting that bulls would need stronger fundamental drivers to break above near-term resistance at 0.7149 (23.6% retracement). On the downside, if 0.7095 gives way, the next line of defense lies at the 50% retracement level of 0.7051.

**Mixed Fundamentals, Cautious Sentiment Prevails**

Market reports indicate that expectations of a possible rate hike by the Reserve Bank of Australia this month provide some underlying support for the Aussie, but the Fed's persistently hawkish stance continues to cap upside potential. Geopolitical uncertainties are also keeping investors cautious. According to analysts, the Aussie lacks clear upside momentum in the near term and remains rangebound around the 0.7100 handle. Any directional breakout may depend on whether the China-US talks signal any de-escalation, as well as Governor Bullock's latest remarks on the monetary policy outlook.
