BitBox Wallet Adds Lightning Network Support Without New Seed Phrase

Swiss bitcoin hardware wallet maker BitBox announced that any BitBox hardware wallet user can now create a Lightning Network hot wallet within the mobile BitBoxApp, directly top up from on-chain balance and pay invoices without switching between multiple apps, wallets, or third-party services. The Lightning wallet is derived from the user's existing BitBox backup, requiring no new seed phrase to record, with the two wallets remaining independent. The Lightning side operates as a hot wallet, targeting small and everyday payments such as coffee, invoices, and quick transfers, while long-term savings remain secured by the hardware device. Within BitBoxApp, users can scan and pay Lightning invoices, send and receive bitcoin, claim a dedicated Lightning address, top up from the on-chain wallet, and transfer funds back again. The feature is built on the Breez SDK, making BitBox one of Breez's over 100 integration partners. Powered by Spark underneath, users do not need to run a node, open channels, or manage liquidity, with funds always self-custodied. Breez launched developer app Glow in August to help developers understand Lightning wallet operations and build their own products.
