On September 8, Protocol Dynamics founder Christine D. Kim reported that Bitcoin Core developers held their weekly meeting last Thursday, with the core topic being whether the team has fallen "behind the times" in AI adoption. Spiral lead Steve Lee noted that donors and community members are concerned that the Core project has neither adequately defended against AI-driven threats nor leveraged AI to assist with code review, testing, and bug triage. Recent security incidents have heightened the urgency: this month alone, over 5,200 Bitcoin addresses were compromised, resulting in losses exceeding 1,800 BTC, with hackers reportedly exploiting a vulnerability in the Coldcard wallet discovered via Kimi K3. Additionally, the CLN client urgently patched a critical vulnerability following a surge in AI-generated exploit reports.
