Cerebras Systems Inc. is intensifying its challenge to Nvidia Corp. in the AI inference space, launching a new server system based on its massive wafer-scale chip.

Cerebras Unveils CS-4 AI Server

On Tuesday, Cerebras launched the CS-4, a rack-scale AI system powered by three of its Wafer Scale Engine-3 Turbo chips, designed to accelerate response generation from AI models.

The system is built on Cerebras' Nexus architecture, featuring upgraded networking components to improve data flow between chips.

The company's chips are significantly larger than traditional AI processors, allowing more data to remain on a single chip, reducing the energy and time required to move information between processors.

The CS-4 is manufactured using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s 5-nanometer process, reducing component count by 50% compared to previous designs, which Cerebras says can help data centers deploy these systems faster.

The company expects the new system to launch in the third quarter.

Cerebras Takes on Nvidia with Faster AI Inference

Cerebras is targeting AI inference, the computing process that generates answers for chatbots like Anthropic's Claude, according to Reuters.

The company says the CS-4 can deliver inference speeds up to 30 times faster than GPU-based systems on specific workloads.

CEO Andrew Feldman said Cerebras expects to deliver 600 megawatts of compute capacity by the end of 2027. He also anticipates a fourfold performance improvement and a 20-fold increase in throughput by then.

The company is also partnering with Amazon.com Inc.'s Web Services, with Cerebras solutions expected to be available via AWS Bedrock in the first quarter of 2027.

Cerebras Revenue Misses Expectations

The company's latest earnings report showed sales of $180.11 million, below the analyst consensus of $194.2 million. However, core revenue grew 103% year-over-year to $209.9 million.

Cerebras expects third-quarter core revenue of $214 million to $216 million, with gross margins of 38% to 40%.

Price action: Cerebras Systems closed at $220.01 on Tuesday, down 12.69%. Shares fell another 1.32% to $217.10 in after-hours trading. Edge rates Cerebras favorably, with the stock maintaining positive price trends in the short, medium, and long term.
