Cerebras Systems Inc. launched the CS-4 on Tuesday, a rack-scale AI system powered by three of its Wafer Scale Engine-3 Turbo chips, designed to accelerate response generation from AI models.
CEO Andrew Feldman said Cerebras expects to deliver 600 megawatts of compute capacity by the end of 2027. He also projected a 4x improvement in performance and a 20x increase in throughput.
Analyst Views
Following the announcement, Needham analyst Quinn Bolton reiterated a Buy rating and maintained a $300 price target.
The analyst noted that the CS-4 delivers a 10x improvement in throughput per watt versus the CS-3, powered by three WSE-3 Turbo chips with twice the PFLOP performance of existing WSE-3 chips.
The analyst added that CS-4 shipments are expected to begin this quarter, while the CS-5 is slated for a 2027 launch.
Bolton wrote that the new "backpack" subsystem is designed to enable faster, more cost-effective large-scale deployments by separating power from the compute system and allowing power to connect vertically to power arrays.
The analyst said Cerebras redesigned its compute subsystem with a rear-mounted "backpack" that connects vertically to power arrays. The self-contained Wafer Scale backpack integrates power conversion, direct liquid cooling, high-speed I/O, and control electronics surrounding the wafer.
By separating compute from power, the design simplifies manufacturing processes, reducing deployment time from days to hours, according to Cerebras. The analyst added that the design also uses 50% fewer components and 60% more automated manufacturing versus previous-generation systems, supporting lower-cost and more scalable production.
