Anthropic's Claude Max quota issue has sparked fresh controversy on social media. The $100 Max 5x and $200 Max 20x plans, by name, might easily be interpreted as the latter offering four times the quota of the former. However, Anthropic's official documentation actually states that 5x and 20x apply only to each 5-hour usage window. All paid tiers also have weekly caps, which Anthropic has not disclosed as multiples of the Pro tier. This is a key source of user dissatisfaction.
A recent Reddit user's reverse calculation suggests that, during the current temporary quota increase, the Max 20x weekly total is roughly only 2.25 times that of Max 5x. Anthropic has even faced a lawsuit over this. A proposed class action filed in June alleges that Max 20x's actual total usage is only 6 to 8 times that of Pro, while Max 5x is about 3.5 times. By this account, the gap in weekly usage between the two tiers is also only about two-fold. The case is still pending, and the court has not yet found Anthropic guilty of false advertising.
