Duolingo Inc. shares traded higher on Tuesday after DA Davidson upgraded the stock. Here's what you need to know.

Duolingo stock is among the best performers today. Why is DUOL stock rising?

DA Davidson Sees Duolingo Near a Turning Point

DA Davidson analyst Wyatt Swanson upgraded the stock from Neutral to Buy and raised the price target from $130 to $160.

DA Davidson reportedly believes the core monetization engine, along with Duolingo's product improvements and marketing shifts, have not received enough recognition from investors. He stated these initiatives will drive sustained growth for the company over the coming years.

Based on this thesis, Swanson pointed to user engagement as a key growth lever. His model projects daily active user growth will continue to maintain momentum, with bookings eventually closing the gap to match that trajectory. Swanson also argued that past instances of slowing DAU growth or monetization volatility are already reflected in the stock price, and this historical record supports his view that Duolingo is approaching a turning point rather than facing new downside risks.

Duolingo Chart Shows a Rebound, But Not Yet a Reversal

Duolingo has recovered above its 20-day, 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day moving averages, an alignment that typically suggests buyers are stepping in on dips rather than selling the stock into strength. The 20-day average stands at $133.05, above the 50-day average of $128.75, giving the recent move a bullish tilt, though the death cross from August 2025 still lingers in the background, posing an unresolved question mark for the long-term trend.

Momentum tells a more cautious story. The MACD line remains below its signal line with a negative histogram, a reading that suggests the rebound looks good for now but still needs confirmation. The stock may be rising on short-term positioning for the day, but sustaining this gain typically requires new buyers willing to pay higher prices the next day, which has yet to be confirmed.

The levels to watch are fairly clear. $144 marks the most recent upside pivot, and if buyers cannot break through this level with genuine conviction, the rebound could stall. To the downside, $117 is the last area showing demand, and it becomes a more pressing level to watch if today's strength fails to hold.
