According to Ethlabs, the Ethereum community is advancing the "Quick Slots" proposal (EIP-8198), which plans to remove client assumptions of a fixed 12-second block time through a one-time restructuring, initially reducing L1 block time from 12 seconds to 10 seconds, with further gradual reductions based on network conditions. Ethlabs noted that project teams including DefiLlama, Doppler, Derive, Ondo, Railgun, Lido, and Ethena, as well as infrastructure teams such as Flashbots and Titan Builder, generally believe that shorter slots will enhance DEX quote efficiency, improve LP returns and user interaction experience, and, when paired with FOCIL, strengthen transaction inclusion and censorship resistance, without significantly weakening node geographic decentralization or validator participation barriers.
