【EU Again Among Top Three Buyers of Russian Energy in September, Spending €1.7 Billion Surpassing Turkey】

(1) According to a report by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), obtained by Sputnik, the EU became one of the top three buyers of Russian energy resources again in September, spending €1.7 billion, surpassing Turkey, despite continued tightening of sanctions against Russia.

(2) The study shows that China remains the largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels, with purchases totaling €9.1 billion; India ranks second at €4.1 billion; Turkey purchased €1 billion, placing fourth.

(3) Of the total European purchases, €817 million was for pipeline natural gas, €615 million for liquefied natural gas, and another €290 million for oil supplied via the Druzhba pipeline.

(4) Among EU countries, Hungary was the largest buyer at €475 million; France at €446 million; and Slovakia at €390 million.

(5) The EU continues to impose restrictive measures on Russia's energy sector and has loudly declared its intention to abandon Russian supplies.

(6) Moscow has repeatedly stated that Western sanctions have not achieved their stated goals, and that abandoning Russian energy is driving up energy costs for European industry and citizens.
