EU's technology chief Henna Virkkunen said the EU is currently "well equipped" to counter risks posed by "rogue AI" and advanced models. She noted that the AI Act, passed by the EU two years ago, has established effective safety guardrails. As the world's first comprehensive AI law, the Act officially took effect in August this year, requiring companies to conduct risk assessments and mitigation efforts before deploying AI systems.\n\nAddressing external concerns that rapid technological iteration could bring unforeseen consequences, Virkkunen emphasized in an interview with Finnish broadcaster Yle that losing human control over AI is regarded as an extremely serious threat. She believes that, with the existing legal framework and risk-based tiered regulatory mechanism, the EU is sufficient to ensure safety risks are properly managed while promoting technological innovation.\n\n[TechFlow]
