⑴ The eurozone recorded a trade deficit of €16.1 billion in August 2026, compared with a surplus of €0.502 billion in the same period last year, marking the largest deficit since January 2023.

⑵ Imports rose 16.7% year-on-year to €243.8 billion, the second-highest August figure on record, trailing only 2022; Middle East conflicts and resulting disruptions to oil tankers in the Persian Gulf drove a 20.7% increase in oil and petroleum product imports to €27.0 billion.

⑶ Chemical product imports grew 11.2% to €29.8 billion, while manufactured goods imports surged 12.7% to €169.3 billion.

⑷ Exports increased 9.9% to €227.7 billion, with overseas sales of manufactured goods up 5.9% to €179.3 billion.

⑸ Exports to the U.S. totaled €39.3 billion, up 18.5% year-on-year, reflecting stabilizing trade after the U.S. imposed a series of tariffs last year.
