According to the FCA's official website, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published new guidance on crypto asset regulation to help firms understand the scope and authorization requirements of the UK's future crypto asset regime. The regime will come into effect on October 25, 2027, with the authorization application window opening on September 30, 2026. The guidance covers activities such as issuing qualifying stablecoins, operating crypto asset trading platforms, trading and matching, crypto asset custody, and staking arrangements. FCA Executive Director David Geale stated that this guidance aims to provide clarity for firms, enabling them to prepare for regulation with confidence. The government has also made targeted amendments to relevant legislation, introducing certain exemption provisions and providing further clarification for specific technology service providers. The FCA will launch a dedicated consultation in October on these legislative changes, covering topics such as qualifying stablecoins, proprietary trading and market making, decentralized protocols, and financial promotions.
