Germany's economy is showing initial signs of stabilization after a prolonged period of weakness. Dr. Ralph Solveen, analyst at Commerzbank, noted that the Ifo Business Climate Index for August rose to 88.8 from 86.7 in July, surpassing both the market expectation of 87.2 and reaching its highest level in a year. Both the current situation and future expectations sub-indices improved simultaneously, indicating that business confidence is being restored.

**Domestic and External Demand, Policy Support Recovery**

Solveen emphasized that stronger external demand and increased government spending are key factors underpinning this improvement in business sentiment. Additionally, an overall improvement in market sentiment has also provided support to the economy. This aligns with recent better-than-expected German factory order data, leading Commerzbank to maintain its assessment of a moderate recovery in industry and the broader economy. The bank forecasts that the German economy will see a slight rebound after possibly recording a minor contraction in the second quarter.

**Recovery Foundation Still Faces Tests**

Despite the positive signals from the data, the fragility of the recovery cannot be overlooked. Analysts believe that ongoing geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East continue to pose downside risks to energy prices, inflation, and overall economic activity. Although corporate expectations for the coming months have turned more optimistic, the solidity of actual growth momentum still requires verification through more data.
