Bank Indonesia held its benchmark interest rate at 5.75% at its first monetary policy meeting under acting Governor Destry Damayanti. DBS Group Research economist Radhika Rao noted that the recent relative stability of the rupiah and robust domestic economic growth data provided key support for the central bank's decision to hold, allowing it to strike a more nuanced balance between maintaining currency stability and supporting economic growth.

**Policy Balance Faces Multiple Tests**

The central bank's decision-making framework requires balancing inflation control and economic growth alongside its core objective of stabilizing the rupiah. Although current interest rate levels are considered to have entered a tight range, policymakers have not entirely ruled out future tightening. Bank Permata Chief Economist Josua Pardede pointed out that unless there is a sharp depreciation of the rupiah or inflation significantly approaching the upper bound of the target, the central bank need not rush to initiate a new round of rate hikes. Market sources indicate that investors are closely monitoring the rupiah's policy direction and the coordination between fiscal and monetary policies.

**Potential Risks and Policy Tool Reserves**

Despite the rate pause, uncertainty in the global financial environment remains a major threat. Bank Danamon Chief Economist Irman Faiz warned that if the rupiah comes under renewed pressure or imported inflation exceeds expectations, the central bank could resume rate hikes, potentially pushing the policy rate to 6.25%. To address the complex situation, Bank Indonesia is also enriching its policy toolkit, such as strengthening foreign exchange hedging incentives to attract capital inflows and support the currency while avoiding further increases in domestic financing costs. As of press time, the dollar traded at around 17,773.96291 against the rupiah, with markets continuing to seek direction from the central bank's policy signals.
