The dollar continued to decline against the Indonesian rupiah during Thursday's Asian session, trading near 17,763, after being at 17,810 at the time of writing. The rupiah's strength is mainly attributed to the stability signals released by the Bank of Indonesia at its latest monetary policy meeting.

**Central Bank Holds Rates, New Governor Bullish on Local Currency**

The Bank of Indonesia kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 5.75% for the second consecutive month at the acting governor's first policy meeting, in line with market expectations. Since the start of the year, the central bank has raised rates by a cumulative 100 basis points to support the currency and investor confidence. The acting governor stated clearly before the decision that the rupiah should continue to strengthen as the central bank deploys all monetary policy tools and expands incentives to attract foreign capital inflows. The central bank also maintained its forecast for Indonesia's economic growth of 4.9% to 5.7% in 2026.

**Multiple Tools in Tandem to Build a Currency Defense Line**

To stabilize the rupiah's exchange rate, the Bank of Indonesia has previously deployed a series of intervention measures. These reportedly include strengthening intervention in both onshore and offshore foreign exchange markets, raising central bank bill yields to attract foreign capital back, and adjusting foreign exchange trading regulations. Additionally, the central bank plans to expand offshore trading between the Chinese yuan and the rupiah, aiming to reduce dependence on the dollar and bolster the local currency's stability from multiple dimensions.

**Market Sentiment Boosted, Short-Term Bias Remains Firm**

The central bank's clear stability path and proactive policy expectation management have effectively eased market concerns over further rupiah depreciation. With unchanged interest rates and a commitment to exchange rate management, the downward pressure on the USD/rupiah pair has increased in the near term. However, external dollar movements and shifts in global risk sentiment remain key variables influencing the pair's subsequent direction.
