IREN Limited shares rose sharply on Wednesday as traders digested a new industry report showing the company leads major AI infrastructure rivals in monetization efficiency. The Nasdaq rose 0.19% and the S&P 500 gained 0.51%, while the tech sector fell 0.4%.
IREN is scheduled to report earnings on August 27. Analysts expect a loss of 63 cents per share, compared with a loss of 66 cents per share in the same period last year. Meanwhile, revenue is projected at $1.4 billion, down from $1.9 billion a year earlier. IREN currently trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 54.5x.
Top Ranked in Revenue Efficiency
The Neocloud Efficiency Ledger, released Monday by research firm The Futurum Group, ranked high-performance computing providers by contracted revenue per megawatt. The Futurum Group CEO Daniel Newman highlighted on X that IREN leads the industry with contracted revenue of approximately $40 million per megawatt.
Outpacing Neocloud Competitors
That $40 million figure places IREN ahead of Galaxy Digital Holdings and CoreWeave Inc. Other ranked peers include Hut 8 Corp., Applied Digital Corp., TeraWulf Inc., Nebius Group N.V., and Core Scientific Inc.
Futurum estimates IREN holds a total contracted revenue backlog of $14 billion, including significant agreements with Microsoft Corp. and NVIDIA Corp. The firm noted IREN controls a total power footprint of 5 gigawatts, with only 350 megawatts currently allocated to AI workloads.
IREN Stock: Key Technical Position
The stock trades approximately 8.4% above its 20-day simple moving average. However, it remains about 2.4% below its 50-day simple moving average and roughly 8%-9% below its 100-day and 200-day simple moving averages—a typical "short-term bounce but still damaged medium-term trend" pattern. A death cross formed in August keeps the broader trend cautious until price can reclaim and hold above those longer-term averages.
Momentum is neutral: the relative strength index stands at 52.10, telling traders the stock is not overbought and remains in a range where it could quickly develop either a continuation move or a pullback.
Key resistance: $43.50
Key support: $37
IREN stock activity: As of Wednesday's data release, IREN shares were up 3.23% at $43.36.
