Investment bank JPMorgan said Wednesday that Tesla appears to be prioritizing the Cybercab over further expanding its Model Y robotaxi fleet.
New Cybercab Variant?
Influencer and Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt shared on social media platform X a report from JPMorgan following its meeting with the electric vehicle giant's management at its Fremont, California facility. JPMorgan said Tesla "expressed confidence in achieving mass production of the Cybercab in the near term."
The report also pointed to potential future models based on the Cybercab platform. "Management also reiterated that Cybercab is just the initial form, and as the platform evolves, other vehicle types are expected to be introduced," pointing to the Obovan concept vehicle.
Separately, Gary Black of The Future Fund has argued that Tesla launching a model priced below $30,000 could bring significant upside for the electric vehicle company.
FSD Upgrade, Optimus Robot
JPMorgan said Tesla also touted Full Self-Driving V15, which would be a "leap in performance," with the system set to include "seven core technologies, about 40% of which are currently being tested in the robotaxi fleet, with initial feedback encouraging."
The report said Tesla reiterated that HW4 hardware can run FSD V15 and unsupervised FSD, but "the AI4.5 computing system is designed to address rising compute and memory demands as robotaxi model scale increases and context windows expand."
On Optimus, the report said commercial sales of the Optimus Gen 3 robot could begin in the second half of 2027, while the robot's launch would be closer to the start of production in Fremont to "protect competitive advantages." Tesla said the Gen 4 robot's "capabilities, cost, and scalability" would be "guided by field experience from Gen 3."
Following JPMorgan's recent meeting with Tesla in Fremont:
"Tesla indicated it intends to pause adding Model Y vehicles to the robotaxi fleet, expressing confidence in achieving mass production of the Cybercab in the near term. On FSD V15, Tesla views this version as a leap forward...
