On August 29, according to Jin10 citing foreign media reports, Chinese chipmaker CXMT has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Defense, seeking removal from a blacklist. Per Bloomberg, CXMT stated that its chips are designed for civilian and commercial use, not military purposes, and claimed it was mistakenly placed on the list. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth named as a defendant. In a statement following the filing, CXMT said it is not a military-industrial enterprise and that its reputation and commercial interests have been continuously damaged since being first added to the blacklist in January 2025. The company added that the action was taken to protect its commercial interests. According to Reuters, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement that, as a matter of policy, it does not comment on pending or ongoing litigation.
