The USD/MXN pair is currently trading near 18.47, recovering from earlier levels, after previously coming under pressure as US-Mexico trade talks progressed. With Mexico's economic calendar empty, investors have shifted their focus to US policy signals and shifts in risk sentiment.

Cooling optimism over trade negotiations is the main driver behind the peso's pullback. Earlier, market reports indicated that high-level US-Mexico consultations had entered an advanced stage, briefly boosting the peso significantly, with USD/MXN even dipping below the 17.00 mark. However, as the latest round of talks stalled and lacked details on a substantive agreement, bullish momentum faded, and the peso gave back some of its gains. Market analysts note that sustained progress in future negotiations could provide some buffer for the peso, but in the short term, it remains constrained by overall risk appetite.

Broad dollar weakness has limited the peso's downside. Despite stronger-than-expected US economic data and some Fed officials maintaining a hawkish stance, fiscal uncertainty continues to weigh on the dollar. Against this backdrop, while the peso has retreated, its trajectory is not one-sided deterioration, reflecting more of a correction from prior gains and a sensitive reaction to negotiation headlines. With no key domestic data to guide Mexico, market sentiment will continue to sway with US developments and geopolitical trade issues.
