Nebius Group NV shares moved lower on Tuesday amid a broader pullback in the AI cloud computing sector, as investors grew more cautious toward high-growth companies whose customers rely on borrowed capital to fund AI infrastructure spending, with inflation concerns and rising bond yields back in focus.
Nebius Group shares came under pressure today. Why is NBIS stock falling?
Iran Tensions and Rising Yields Pressure NBIS Shares
The breakdown of the ceasefire between the US and Iran is sending ripple effects through energy markets, which in turn are impacting growth stocks like Nebius. The Trump administration chose not to extend Iran's temporary ceasefire, and Tehran subsequently vowed a tougher military stance, raising concerns about potential threats to the key oil shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude rose above $91 per barrel, West Texas Intermediate approached $85, and natural gas also ticked higher, all fueling concerns that energy costs could rise further.
These higher energy prices have a tangible impact on stocks like Nebius. Rising oil prices tend to feed directly into inflation, which limits the Federal Reserve's room to cut interest rates in the near term. Bond markets reacted almost immediately on Tuesday, with the 10-year US Treasury yield jumping to 4.74% and the 2-year yield rising to 4.19%.
This rise in yields hits AI infrastructure companies particularly hard for two reasons. Nebius's valuation depends heavily on profits that Wall Street expects to materialize years down the line—when yields rise, those future profits are discounted more aggressively, since investors can now simply park money in bonds for better returns.
Additionally, a significant portion of the AI infrastructure Nebius sells is financed through customer borrowing—more expensive debt makes such spending harder to justify, threatening the demand growth that investors are betting on.
Nebius's Long-Term Uptrend Remains Intact After Tuesday's Decline
Nebius shares remain 17.2% above the 20-day moving average and 67.8% above the 200-day moving average, keeping the stock's broader uptrend intact even as volatility increases. On the medium-term horizon, the picture becomes more mixed: the 20-day average sitting below the 50-day average suggests weak short-term momentum, while the 50-day average holding above the 200-day average indicates the long-term bullish structure remains in place.
Momentum indicators offer a clearer signal than price action alone. The MACD is currently above its signal line with a positive histogram, suggesting that recent selling pressure is easing even though the stock's day-to-day swings remain volatile. Simply put, the stock may still be choppy, but it does not appear to be accelerating lower.
This sets up two key levels worth watching closely. On the downside, traders will want to see whether Nebius can hold around $200, which is near the stock's July bottom, as a deeper break below that zone would begin to undermine the case for the stock staying above its major trendline.
On the upside, reclaiming the pivot zone near the June high would signal that dip-buying investors are stepping back in. The key levels to watch are $279 to the upside and $200.50 to the downside.
