Nvidia shares rose nearly 1% in premarket trading Tuesday, as traders maintained a steady risk appetite for large-cap tech stocks. Nasdaq futures rose 0.13%, while S&P 500 futures fell 0.03%.
The large-cap tech giant is looking beyond chip sales, seeking to unlock more value from the AI buildout wave by expanding customer financing options, returning capital to shareholders, and strengthening the security infrastructure needed for widespread adoption of autonomous AI agents.
Nvidia Seeks to Expand AI Financing
According to a Financial Times report Tuesday, Nvidia has held preliminary discussions with insurers on structures to mitigate risks tied to chip-backed loans.
Under one proposal, if a small cloud service provider defaults and proceeds from the resale of Nvidia chips used as collateral are insufficient to cover the outstanding loan, insurers could provide protection to lenders.
The idea could broaden financing access for so-called new cloud service providers, which are building expensive AI infrastructure but lack the balance-sheet strength of Microsoft, Alphabet, or Amazon.
CEO Jensen Huang has suggested that AI chips could eventually become an "investable asset class," similar to aircraft and other expensive, long-lived equipment supported by specialized financing markets.
Nvidia has also proposed supporting financing structures aimed at unlocking roughly $500 billion from institutions such as Goldman Sachs Group and Apollo Global Management. Separately, the company has guaranteed $105 billion in leases tied to an OpenAI data center project.
The strategy could deepen Nvidia's role in the AI ecosystem by helping customers finance the infrastructure needed to build and deploy its chips. The company expects AI labs supported by its balance sheet to contribute about 25% of revenue next year.
Meanwhile, Nvidia is returning more cash to investors. The company recently increased its stock buyback authorization by $150 billion, its largest increase ever.

Huang Sees Security as Key to AI Expansion
Huang believes AI can transform every industry, but he views security as critical to widespread adoption.
He told CNBC Monday that companies should grant autonomous agents only the necessary permissions, then monitor whether they adhere to those limits. Nvidia developed OpenShell to constrain agents and control access, while Sentry monitors their behavior.
Huang described AI security as a "technically solvable problem" and compared Nvidia's approach to the security boundaries browsers set to prevent downloaded applications from gaining unrestricted access.
He told CNBC Monday that more than 100 companies support OpenShell, including Microsoft, IBM, Red Hat, Anthropic, and SpaceX.
