OpenAI Ends Nearly Four-Year Partnership with Cursor, Halting Direct Model Supply on November 12

OpenAI announced the end of its nearly four-year partnership with Cursor. Going forward, new OpenAI models will no longer be integrated into Cursor, with direct supply of existing models slated to cease on November 12, 2026. Two weeks prior, SpaceX completed a $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, and under the terms of their contract, OpenAI holds the right to terminate the partnership following Cursor's acquisition.

OpenAI stated that this decision is tied to trust issues with Musk's companies, citing violations of OpenAI's contract after Twitter's acquisition, as well as xAI's previous unauthorized use of OpenAI models. Based on these factors, OpenAI determined that continuing to supply new models to Cursor post-acquisition by SpaceX poses risks.
