The Pentagon reports that more than 750 U.S. service members have been killed or wounded in the Iran war, with the toll rising further this week since the conflict began.

According to the Defense Casualty Analysis System, when combining data from Operation Epic Fury with the newer Overseas Operations category, over 750 troops have been killed or wounded.

18 service members have been killed.

The Overseas Operations category began tracking casualties on July 7, the same day the U.S. resumed airstrikes on Iran after an attack on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

At that time, President Donald Trump notified Congress that he was extending the military authorization by 60 days.

The Pentagon has faced criticism from news outlets and Democratic lawmakers over the decline in reported U.S. military casualties in the Defense Casualty Analysis System database, according to The Hill on Friday.

Trump this week announced "the most overwhelming economic action" against Iran, while negotiations between Tehran and the U.S. over reopening the Strait of Hormuz remain deadlocked.

"This will be an economic war on an unprecedented scale," Trump said on Wednesday.

The U.S.-Iran conflict is about to enter its seventh month, with no signs of a permanent ceasefire.
