On August 29, Qualcomm plans to launch a long-term robotics investment program in Japan, centered on its newly established Qualcomm Japan Robotics Center, to build an open physical AI ecosystem in collaboration with Japanese robotics, industrial automation, research, and technology companies. Qualcomm stated that the center will undertake functions including applied R&D, industrial ecosystem collaboration, talent development, and robotics innovation. Participating organizations include Fanuc, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Toyota, Sony, Panasonic, Fujitsu, NEC, NTT DOCOMO, KDDI, Preferred Networks, and others.
This investment program covers the full lifecycle of robotics from technology R&D to commercial deployment and global expansion, with four main pillars: establishing a robotics R&D center, expanding the industrial ecosystem, promoting global commercialization of Japanese robotics companies, and supporting the deployment of demonstrative physical AI projects. Qualcomm said it will help Japanese robotics startups, developers, and research institutions accelerate innovation and bring solutions to the global market by providing chip platforms, technical support, development resources, and access to its global customer and partner network.
