Rocket Lab Corporation shares declined in Wednesday pre-market trading. On Tuesday, the company was selected for a $12 million contract to support the U.S. Air Force's Space Data Network consortium.

The news comes amid mixed market sentiment, with S&P 500 futures trading roughly flat.

Secures U.S. Air Force Data Network Contract

The program aims to establish a secure, high-speed global satellite communications network for military operations.

Rocket Lab was also competitively selected for two delivery orders to support the SDN-B project, demonstrating interoperability of secure optical communications in space.

The SDN consortium, overseen by the U.S. Air Force's Space Systems Command, brings together leading industry players to jointly develop and deploy a resilient satellite communications architecture.

The network is designed to provide secure, real-time global connectivity for U.S. military operations across air, land, sea, and space domains.

The SDN-B project is a key component of the U.S. Air Force's broader Space Data Network initiative, which aims to deliver high-capacity, low-latency, and resilient data transmission capabilities to joint forces.

By enabling continuous, secure connectivity, the project is expected to enhance mission-critical communications for warfighters globally.

Joins U.S. Air Force NITE-STAR Program

Recently, the company was included in the U.S. Air Force's NITE-STAR program, a $981 million contract vehicle supporting space testing and training infrastructure, the company announced Monday.

Managed by Space Systems Command, the program aims to help train space operators for contested scenarios and enhance Air Force readiness.

As a selectee, Rocket Lab can now compete for individual task orders under the program, covering satellite development, space software, ground system deployment, and sustainment of operational systems.
