Cryptocurrency bettors have sharply lowered the odds of Tesla Inc. commercially launching its Optimus humanoid robot in 2026.

No Optimus Launch in 2026?

Polygon-based Polymarket currently gives Tesla a 9% probability of unveiling the robot by December 31, down 2% from a week ago and 15% from a month ago.

That probability peaked at 33% a month ago but has since fallen sharply.

Musk's Grand Vision

These odds reflect growing interest in humanoid robots and AI technology. Tesla Optimus is a bipedal autonomous humanoid robot designed to perform repetitive, tedious, or dangerous tasks.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk reiterated his grand vision for the robot earlier this month, saying it could eventually perform a wide range of tasks from cooking and mowing lawns to babysitting, elder care, and technical work.

Tesla plans to spend over $25 billion on AI computing, robotaxis, and Optimus in 2026, with spending expected to continue rising over the next two to three years.

The company is converting part of its Fremont factory into an Optimus facility, targeting an annual production capacity of 1 million robots.

Tesla's Advantage?

Shay Boloor, chief market strategist at Futurum Equities, cited analysis from Citizens Bank, which predicts Tesla Optimus could target a $1.7 trillion U.S. labor market in the long term.

According to that analysis, a $300 billion slice of that market—mainly involving hospitality, manufacturing, and construction sectors—is serviceable in the near term.

"This gives Tesla a huge advantage as its first customer, as it can lower its own labor costs while proving Optimus works before selling it to the broader market," Boloor said.

Citizens Bank believes $TSLA Optimus could eventually address a ~$1.7T U.S. labor market, with ~$300B of jobs already feasible in factories, warehouses, and back-office roles.

Even more striking, the cost model for humanoid robots is ~$5/hour versus ~$35/hour for human workers...

Price action: Tesla stock closed up 5.14% on Friday at $362.86. Year-to-date, the stock is down 19.31%. Investor's Edge stock rankings show TSLA shares performing poorly across short-, medium-, and long-term trends.
