U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to maintaining U.S. leadership in Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and prediction markets.

Trump Urges Congress to Move Forward on CLARITY Act

Trump hosted a cryptocurrency summit at the White House, joined by Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins. Executives from cryptocurrency and prediction market companies also attended, including Coinbase Global Inc., Robinhood Markets Inc., Ripple, and Kalshi.

"We are ensuring that the United States remains the undisputed leader not only in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency but also in prediction markets, artificial intelligence, and many other technological fields," Trump said.

He added that the U.S. is currently the "hottest country" in the world and urged Congress to take the next step by passing the CLARITY Act.

"This is very strong structured legislation that will keep us ahead of China," Trump stated.

Will the U.S. Buy Bitcoin?

Trump also congratulated Selig for "working hard" to bring Hyperliquid—a decentralized exchange known for facilitating perpetual futures trading—to the U.S. in a fully compliant and legal manner.

He was then asked whether the Trump administration plans to accumulate Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.

"Well, that topic has been discussed. I think I might rely on Paul [Atkins] and the entire team to make that decision," he responded. "Bitcoin has already taken a lot of pressure off the dollar."

Trump said he would "definitely listen" if these executives made recommendations.

Notably, Trump signed an executive order last year to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve, encouraging officials to develop budget-neutral strategies to acquire additional BTC.

Can the CLARITY Act Finally Pass?

New optimism surrounding the CLARITY Act is providing meaningful support to the industry.

Senator Tim Scott, a Republican and chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, said the legislation has a "very good chance" of moving forward in September.

A procedural Senate vote remains on the schedule for September 15. However, the remaining sticking point involves an ethics provision tied to the Trump family's cryptocurrency interests.

Trump's remarks highlight the growing importance of cryptocurrency and emerging technologies in the global economy. His support for the CLARITY Act signals a desire for regulatory clarity in the crypto space, which could foster innovation and investment in the sector.

Trump's mention of Bitcoin's positive impact on the dollar shows he recognizes the potential benefits of cryptocurrency for the U.S. economy. His openness to suggestions on cryptocurrency accumulation may signal a shift in the U.S. government's stance toward digital assets.
