Trump Signs Executive Order to Create U.S. Space Academy

On August 29, Trump signed an executive order to initiate the process of establishing the "U.S. Space Academy," stating that the academy will serve the U.S. Space Force, NASA, and the civilian space industry, and will model itself on military institutions such as West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy to "attract, cultivate, and graduate America's best talent."

Trump said the academy's location will be announced later, and hinted that Texas Senator Ted Cruz has lobbied to bring it to the state. Trump also emphasized his space strategy, including the creation of the Space Force during his first term and a planned Mars mission in 2028, which will deploy a nuclear-powered interstellar spacecraft.
