Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is expected to assume the chairmanship of the Senate Banking Committee starting in 2027, a position that would grant her broad authority to investigate prediction markets and cryptocurrency companies, according to reports.
Will Warren Investigate Trump?
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal reported that Warren could use the committee's subpoena power to probe alleged insider trading involving prediction markets and review consumer protection practices at cryptocurrency firms.
The Journal added that Warren, currently the senior member of the committee, could also examine "corruption allegations" involving President Donald Trump and his family.
The report noted that she, alongside Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Representative Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), may launch "aggressive investigations" into the crypto industry and its ties to Trump's inner circle.
Warren's appointment has not been finalized, though Senate observers reportedly consider the likelihood of a competitive candidate "unlikely."
Warren's team did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Warren Expected to Tighten Oversight
Warren's anticipated committee role follows months of criticism of Trump's crypto interests and regulatory policies.
Earlier in March, she accused Trump of reducing enforcement efforts against cryptocurrencies and prediction markets to benefit companies linked to his family.
Warren has been one of the most vocal critics of Trump family-affiliated crypto ventures, including the Official Trump and World Liberty Financial platforms.
She has also been critical of the CLARITY Act, arguing it overlooks conflicts of interest arising from Trump's and his family's crypto businesses.
