Why Did Lumentum Shares Surge on Tuesday?

Lumentum Holdings Inc shares surged sharply on Tuesday, as the fiber optic connectivity sector rallied broadly in tandem with Corning Inc.

The sector catalyst was Corning's announcement of a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Verizon Communications Inc. to supply more than 80 million miles of high-density optical fiber and connectivity solutions between 2027 and 2032.

Verizon announced the deal on Tuesday to support consumer broadband, converged services, and AI infrastructure. The deployment will accelerate broadband expansion while building a nationwide long-haul backbone network for AI hyperscale customers.
