Negotiations between Anthropic and NTT DATA over the former's first data center project in Japan have entered their final stage. The two parties are expected to reach a final agreement within this fiscal year, with partial operations starting as early as 2028.
This AI computing facility will be located in Osaka, with an expected scale of 500MW. Construction costs alone will exceed 1 trillion yen (IT Home note: approximately 42.291 billion yuan at current exchange rates), and it will subsequently be equipped with a large number of high-value chips. The report mentioned that the AI data center will initially adopt behind-the-meter power supply (such as on-site power generation methods like fuel cells) to allow more time for the supporting power infrastructure to be put in place.
