BNB Chain announced that BEP-706 has been included in the Jenner hard fork upgrade, which will provide millisecond-level block timestamps to smart contracts through a new precompiled contract deployed at address 0x70. Previously, contracts could only read timestamps with second-level precision via block.timestamp, making it impossible to distinguish time differences even when multiple blocks were generated within the same second. After the upgrade, developers can read timestamps in milliseconds through the new interface, while the return value of the existing block.timestamp and its second-level timing logic remain unchanged. This feature is applicable to scenarios requiring sub-second precision, such as quote settlement with validity periods of only a few hundred milliseconds, auction deadlines, and freshness checks for price oracle data updates. The computational cost of the new precompiled contract is 20 Gas, with additional call and memory costs incurred for invocation. BNB Chain reminds developers to pay attention to unit consistency between seconds and milliseconds, and to check whether the call succeeds and returns the expected 32 bytes of data during integration.
