Chainalysis Teams Up with Binance and Coinbase to Combat Child Exploitation Networks

Chainalysis organized a multi-day operation codenamed "Operation Lighthouse" to investigate networks distributing child sexual abuse material using blockchain intelligence. The operation was headquartered at the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance in New York, collaborating with global law enforcement agencies including Europol, the Australian Federal Police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the UK's National Crime Agency. The investigation examined over 29,000 cryptocurrency addresses and digital identifiers, identified more than 100 related forums and hubs, generated over 14,000 investigative leads, and identified suspects across 125 countries, some of whom were registered sex offenders. Multiple crypto companies participated in the effort, including payment firm Block and non-profit organizations such as the Internet Watch Foundation. Gavin Sather, Senior Program Manager for Anti-Child Exploitation at Binance, stated that blockchain's transparency makes it difficult for criminals to conceal their illicit activities over the long term.
