On August 21, CMB Wing Lung Bank issued a notice to clients, stating that it is cooperating with the latest risk management and account compliance guidelines from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission to conduct a comprehensive optimization and review of investment accounts held by mainland investors. Upon verification, all investment accounts held by relevant clients (including wealth management, securities, and/or paper gold passbook accounts) had no asset balances as of May 22, 2026, and no investment transaction records over the past 12 months, and have been classified as "zero-balance inactive investment accounts." To maintain normal account operation, the bank requires clients to submit the "Declaration of Inactive Investment Account" as soon as possible. Clients can complete the submission via a pop-up prompt on their personal account in the China Merchants Wing Lung Bank mobile app; joint account holders or those not registered for the mobile app can call the customer service hotline for guidance, with each joint account holder required to submit separately. The declaration primarily includes confirmation of accurate personal information, legal sources of funds, that the account has not been closed or suspended due to suspicious documents, and timely notification of any data changes. The bank noted that if clients fail to submit in a timely manner, new investment transactions (including stock purchases and subscription to wealth management products) will be suspended as appropriate; if submission remains outstanding, it is expected that such "inactive investment accounts" may be closed starting from November 2026. Once an account is suspended or closed, no new securities or wealth management product investment transactions can be conducted.
