Coinbase Submits Response to CFTC and SEC on Perpetual Derivatives Definition

Coinbase policy chief Faryar Shirzad said Coinbase has submitted a joint comment-letter response to the CFTC and SEC regarding the definition of perpetual derivatives products and alternative compliance pathways. He stressed that the complexity of definitions and overlapping regulatory jurisdiction must be addressed so that the United States can bring related activities under domestic oversight. Shirzad noted that clarifying the rules would help safely open these opportunities to U.S. consumers and maintain U.S. competitiveness against foreign jurisdictions that already hold a significant first-mover advantage in this space. The response focuses on product definitions and compliance arrangements, aiming to facilitate the orderly establishment of perpetual-style derivatives in the United States.
