Grayscale's Zcash spot ETF has officially begun trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH, becoming the world's first exchange-traded product to offer spot exposure to Zcash (ZEC). The product was formerly the Grayscale Zcash Trust, originally established as a private placement in October 2017. Grayscale stated that ZCSH is designed to meet investor demand for access to crypto assets beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum through traditional brokerage accounts. Grayscale's head of index business, Steve Vanourny, noted that Zcash boasts nearly a decade of network history, a fixed supply cap of 21 million coins, and a PoW mechanism, while also offering optional privacy features that Bitcoin lacks. He positioned ZCSH as a high-risk satellite holding within digital asset portfolios. Notably, as ZCSH launches, a previously disclosed severe vulnerability in Zcash's privacy system remains under market scrutiny. In May, researchers discovered an exploitable flaw in Zcash's Orchard privacy pool that could theoretically allow attackers to forge ZEC. Zcash subsequently deployed an emergency patch in June and activated the Ironwood upgrade in July to replace the vulnerable Orchard pool and implement new supply accounting rules to restrict potential counterfeit ZEC from entering circulation. Grayscale said it will continue to closely monitor the adoption of the Ironwood upgrade, network security, exchange support, and regulatory policies regarding privacy assets.
