Phoenix Media Technology, citing an IDC report seen by Reuters, said Nvidia's share of China's data center AI chip market fell to 34% in the first half of 2026. IDC data shows that from January to June this year, Nvidia shipped 678,000 AI accelerators in the Chinese market, down 44% year-over-year. The report attributes the shift in share to US export controls restricting product supply, as well as Chinese domestic competitors expanding their share. Of the 11 Chinese chip makers tracked by IDC, nine saw year-over-year growth in shipments. Huawei shipped 572,000 AI accelerators in the first half, up from over 300,000 in the same period last year, accounting for 28% of the overall market. Alibaba's chip design unit, T-Head, held a 7% market share, Cambricon 5%, Baidu's Kunlun Core 4%, and Hygon Information 3%. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has repeatedly criticized the US government's export restrictions, saying the policy has forced Nvidia to cede China's $50 billion AI chip market to Huawei. IDC did not specify which products constituted the 34% share, nor whether it includes chips such as the B200 and B300. As of press time, Nvidia had not responded to requests for comment.
