Japanese Media: Japan's New Fiscal Year Budget Requests May Exceed 130 Trillion Yen

The total budget requests from Japanese government ministries and agencies for fiscal year 2027 are expected to exceed 130 trillion yen (approximately $817.6 billion), a significant increase from the current fiscal year's 122 trillion yen. The Japanese government projects tax revenue of only about 83 trillion yen for fiscal year 2026, and the massive budget requests could lead to the issuance of more government bonds. Due to concerns over the deteriorating fiscal situation, Japanese government bond yields have recently continued to rise, increasing interest payment burdens and further intensifying fiscal pressure.
