House Speaker Mike Johnson said American workers are "winning again," citing tax cuts, job creation, investment, and a resurgence in domestic manufacturing under Republican policies.

Johnson Pushes Jobs, Tax Cuts, and Manufacturing

On Monday, Johnson posted on X, crediting Republicans for improved economic opportunities for American workers.

"American workers are winning again!" he wrote, adding that "hardworking Americans have more opportunities and get to keep more of their hard-earned money."

Johnson highlighted several economic developments, including "higher paychecks" and "tax-free tips and overtime pay."
He also stated that "1 million private sector jobs" have been added.

The Republican leader further noted that "trillions of dollars in investment are pouring into America," describing the trend as "the return of American manufacturing."

"American manufacturing is booming," Johnson said.

US manufacturing activity expanded for the eighth consecutive month in August, with the ISM Manufacturing PMI easing to 54.6% from 55.6% in July. New orders, backlogs, and imports weakened, while production remained strong and prices held at a high 71.1%.

According to the National Association of Manufacturers, manufacturers contributed a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $3 trillion to the US economy in the first quarter of 2026, while the sector employed nearly 12.6 million workers.

Bessent Backs Manufacturing Revival

Last week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Trump's "America First" policies are fueling a manufacturing revival by boosting construction and factory investment.

He argued that construction job growth in factory-related sectors is "10 times faster than under Biden," and said these policies are creating conditions for "more investment, stronger supply chains, and more wage growth opportunities."

Bessent added: "This building boom will continue to drive our manufacturing revival."

Treasury Yields Face Fiscal Concerns

On Tuesday, economist Robin Brooks warned that Treasury yields are rising despite weakening US economic data, saying the market's underlying dynamics are "worse than they appear."

He argued that investors are increasingly focused on the US budget deficit, "regardless of which way the data surprises."

Similarly, investor Peter Schiff dismissed the view that rising yields are due to a strong economy.

He said it would be "absurd" to ignore factors including "rising inflation expectations, loss of confidence in US fiscal policy, and de-dollarization."

Meanwhile, the US economy added 162,000 jobs in August, far exceeding the expected 56,000, while the unemployment rate held at 4.1%.

Food services and local government education led the job gains, while the information sector lost 23,000 jobs. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3% from the prior month.
