Optimism's controversial governance proposal has passed, reallocating 546.9 million OP tokens originally designated for user airdrops to a strategic ecosystem fund managed by the Optimism Foundation, valued at approximately $49.7 million at current prices. The fund will be used to support OP mainnet and enterprise adoption-related partnerships, incentives, and ecosystem growth.
In the final stage of voting, Optimism-funded core development team Test in Prod cast 8.486 million OP votes in favor, raising the approval rate from 45.77% to 61.84%, making it a key factor in the proposal's passage. Excluding that vote, the final approval rate would have been just 46.47%. Some community members and research institutions have opposed the foundation gaining discretionary control over funds, citing a lack of specific oversight mechanisms and the rewriting of user allocations.
