According to The Block, Samsung announced on October 7 that Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will support USDC transfers on Solana for cross-border remittances, covering 82 million US Galaxy devices starting the last week of October. The feature is built into Samsung Wallet and includes fiat withdrawal and deposit channels, rather than being a standalone crypto app.
Users can send USDC to compatible external wallets, with Solana and Sui infrastructure running in the background, and the underlying framework partnering with US-licensed stablecoin custodian Bastion. Samsung does not charge transfer fees, though recipient wallets or exchanges may charge. The wallet also supports transfers to eligible bank accounts in over 60 countries, settling in the recipient's local currency.
Coinbase will custody USDC in Samsung Wallet via Coinbase Prime. Samsung plans to expand the service to more markets where local regulations permit.
