Shipyard to End IPFS-Related Operations on September 30 as Protocol Labs Halts Funding

Shipyard, an engineering collective focused on IPFS and libp2p technologies, announced that Protocol Labs will not renew its funding. As a result, Shipyard will wind down IPFS-related engineering, maintenance, and infrastructure operations, with a final deadline of September 30, 2026.

Shipyard stated that its maintained core projects—including Kubo, Helia, Boxo, Rainbow, and IPFS Desktop—will no longer have dedicated maintainers for new features, fixes, and releases; contributions to go-libp2p and js-libp2p will cease; and its operated public infrastructure (such as ipfs.io, dweb.link, and IPFS bootstrap nodes) will also be discontinued, with the future of related domains and infrastructure determined by Protocol Labs. The team will assist with the transition by the end of September.
