Sun Yuchen, founder of Tron, stated on X that Tron's quantum-resistant cryptography has gone live on the testnet. He said the team is closely monitoring advancements in quantum computing and AI, standing ready to deploy quantum-resistant capabilities to the mainnet, and is committed to safeguarding user assets. Tron is expected to become one of the few mainstream blockchains to achieve quantum resistance before Q-Day. Q-Day refers to the day when quantum computing becomes powerful enough to break current security standards. Developers are increasingly focusing on quantum-resistant cryptography because sufficiently powerful quantum computers could eventually crack the elliptic curve cryptography used to secure blockchain networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Earlier this year, a consortium led by Strategy pledged $15 million to fund Bitcoin quantum security research, the Ethereum Foundation released a proposal to migrate accounts to quantum-resistant cryptography, and Algorand plans to introduce quantum-resistant accounts by 2027. Additionally, blockchain security firm AmericanFortress previously unveiled a cryptographic solution that can protect crypto wallets from future quantum attacks without requiring users to transfer funds, rotate keys, or change wallet addresses. The solution has been published as a technical paper on the Cryptography ePrint Archive and has not yet undergone peer review.
