UK HMRC Sends Over 80,000 Warning Letters to Cryptocurrency Investors

August 20 news, according to BBC, in the 2025-26 fiscal year, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) sent 81,172 warning letters, emails, and text messages to cryptocurrency investors it suspects may have underpaid tax. In the 2023-24 fiscal year, this figure was only 27,714. Accountants urge investors to check whether they owe tax, as upcoming new powers will make it easier for HMRC to target individuals.
