According to Nikkei Chinese edition, citing Bloomberg News on August 24, the Trump administration is considering imposing an additional 7.5% tariff on Chinese goods exported to the U.S., a move seen as a countermeasure against China's overcapacity. If this tariff takes effect, combined with previously levied duties, the total rate would reach 20%, restoring the level before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Trump's tariffs invalid in February this year.

The report states that in July, the Trump administration, citing the Trade Act's Section 301, imposed additional tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on 60 countries and regions, including China, citing insufficient efforts to address forced labor issues; meanwhile, it also considered tariffs on 16 countries and regions, including China and Japan, over overcapacity concerns. The U.S. claims Chinese surplus products are eroding the U.S. market, while China has refuted these allegations.
