On September 1, three US officials said Trump and his senior aides are reviewing a plan for a limited military strike in the Strait of Hormuz. The plan was drawn up by US Central Command over the past week and has received explicit support from Defense Secretary Hegseth.
Officials said the core goal of the move is to prevent Iran from rebuilding radar and anti-ship missile systems used for precision attacks on commercial vessels and US warships. Although final presidential approval has not yet been granted, Trump is expected to formally authorize the operation after the escalation of exchanges of fire between the two sides over the weekend, in order to effectively reduce security threats to oil tankers and US military assets.
