Vitalik Rebuts Prediction That AI Will Halve Bitcoin, Says 90% of His Net Worth Bet on Opposite Direction

On Sept. 7, according to CryptoNews, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin rebutted a prediction that AI could halve Bitcoin's price within two years. Silicon Valley investor and host of the Doom Debates podcast, Liron Shapira, said he is 50% confident Bitcoin will drop over 50% in two years, as AI could undermine the network security investors expect. Buterin responded that he holds the opposite view, arguing AI will not truly threaten Bitcoin's underlying security. He distinguished two scenarios: one is AI-driven network-level attacks, which can be resolved by upgrading client software and infrastructure; the other is a complete break of Bitcoin's hash algorithm or proof-of-work, which he considers highly unlikely.
